Yas Saghafi

Teacher

Yas’s life in the water began at age four in Iran, where she swam her first race just a year before her family moved to Virginia. Her competitive journey took her through the lanes of the Snow Swimming and Torpedoes swim clubs, eventually leading her to the varsity team in high school and a coaching role by age 15. Currently a graduate student at Columbia University studying Forensic Psychology, Yas views the pool as a vital community space for building confidence and lasting memories. Inspired by the coaches who shaped her own journey, she is dedicated to helping her students master the water—especially her favorite stroke -- butterfly! When she isn't teaching, Yas is likely playing the violin, crocheting, or heading to a concert.
