Shayla's (they/them) immersion into swimming began with a splash of independence. Self-taught from the age of nine, their passion for the water deepened at Bard College, where they joined the competitive swim team. Shayla finds the same tranquility in the water that they admire in their favorite animal, the steady and graceful giraffe. Shayla's love for swimming fuels their dedication to teaching, inspiring students to build confidence and embrace the water’s serenity. Outside the pool, Shayla is a creative spirit, indulging in poetry, literature, coding, and cooking.
