Helmsley learned to swim at the advanced age of 16 -- when he decided to become a lifeguard and recognized how essential this life skill truly was. While working as a lifeguard, he was captivated by the joy and energy of the lessons happening around him, which inspired him to jump in and begin training to become a teacher himself. Helmsley is dedicated to creating a positive, fun environment where students feel safe stepping out of their comfort zones. When he’s not at the pool, Helmsley stays active at the gym, plays basketball, and keeps a keen eye on the latest in the automotive world.
