Nabel learned to swim at a Boys & Girls Club in East Harlem. After watching her older sister in lessons for a few months, her instructor invited Nabel to join and soon the siblings were on their way to the swim team. For eight years, Nabel swam on USA Swimming club teams, first with the Boys & Girls Club and later with the Riverbank Redtails, where she competed at meets across the United States. In high school, she spread her talents well beyond the pool. She was the captain of her PSAL softball team and the Latin dance club; became a part of Student Government; was President of her class; and was selected for the National Honors Society. However, she cites her most impactful experience as being a part of the NYPD Explorers program, where she reached the rank of Lieutenant. Nabel currently attends John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Counseling with aspirations to become a detective in the NYPD, specializing in cold cases or narcotics.
