As an energy-filled teenager, Francis dedicated his time to playing all kinds of sports, and working out with his buddies. During his junior year at George Washington High School, Francis took swimming classes with the dream of becoming a "heroic" lifeguard. He pushed himself so hard during those classes that the coach recruited him to join the varsity men's swim team. Francis fed off the positive energy from his teammates and competition and was soon working as a lifeguard at Orchard Beach and teaching lessons to all ages. Since he was sixteen, he has taught every level of aquatics, from baby swim to adult private lessons to water aerobics. He is now completing his fourth year with the Lehman Lightning swim team at Lehman College while he pursues his degree in Exercise Science.
